Hogwarts Legacy features numerous hidden secrets scattered throughout its vast castle, including intriguing treasure hunts given by fellow students. One of the earliest side quests players can encounter is Cache in the Castle, initiated by speaking with Arthur Plummly in the Astronomy Wing. Finding the specific locations on Arthur's treasure map requires a good eye for recognizable landmarks inside the school.
Starting the Cache in the Castle Quest
To begin this quest, travel to the Charms Classroom Floo Flame located in the Astronomy Wing of Hogwarts Castle. Speak with Arthur Plummly, who is standing near the railing down the nearby staircase. He will share a sketch depicting three unique landmarks leading to a hidden chest.
Locating the Rhinoceros Skeleton and Dragon Fountain
The first landmark drawn on the treasure map is a large rhinoceros skeleton situated in the Astronomy Wing. Head down the stairs past the Defence Against the Dark Arts area to spot the skeleton on display. From there, continue downward through the nearby doors to exit into the Transfiguration Courtyard. In the center of the courtyard sits the second landmark, a prominent dragon fountain statue.
Finding the Painting and Solving the Puzzle
Head past the dragon fountain and enter the doors leading into the North Hall stairwell. Walk up two flights of stairs to locate the painting illustrated on Arthur's map. Aim at the top handle of the painting frame and cast the Accio spell. This action reveals a secret doorway holding a hidden chest with the Authentic Historian's Uniform reward inside.
Returning to Arthur Plummly
After looting the reward chest, fast travel back to the Charms Classroom Floo Flame to locate Arthur. Speak with him to share your findings and successfully complete the quest. Completing this side mission grants valuable experience points and expands your gear collection.
